ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mystery Writer BJ Bourg is the Chief Investigator for a Louisiana District Attorney's Office. He has over fifteen years of law enforcement experience in a variety of fields, including patrol, investigations, SWAT, sniping, and training. While none of his stories are based on actual cases he has worked, he draws upon his law enforcement experiences, training, and knowledge in his quest to create believable and entertaining mysteries. For more on the author's Law Enforcement background, including photos of the author at work, check out his Law Enforcement Career page.

BJ Bourg's love for story-telling began at age ten, but it wasn't until he was twenty-eight that he submitted his first short story for consideration. He had to wait another four years to become published. It was on May 23rd of 2003 that Earl Staggs, Senior Fiction Editor for FUTURES Mysterious Anthology Magazine, notified him that his story, MUDDY WATERS, had been accepted for publication. The story was edited by FMAM Founder and Publisher Babs Lakey. It appeared in the Summer 2004 issue and was featured on the cover.

Since that first acceptance, the author has had over a hundred stories published in the following venues: Great Mystery and Suspense Magazine, Amazon Shorts Program, Writer's Post Journal, Mysterical-E, Future's Mysterious Anthology Magazine, Flashing in the Gutters, Apollo's Lyre, Bewildering Stories, Flashshot, Detective Mystery Stories, Future's Anthology MagEzineThe Writer's Hood, Nefarious Tales of Mystery, Chippewa Publishing, Crime and Suspense, and Skyline Magazine's Endless Stories. To read excerpts from his short stories and to find out where they were published, visit his Short Stories page.

BJ Bourg is the author of  ABSENT THE SOUL, which is a book of short mysteries that include his first dozen. Three of his longer short stories appear in the new anthology, The EX Factor, which is published by Koboca Publishing and is available in all bookstores. In addition to that, one of his short stories, A FATHER'S CONSOLATION, is included in an anthology titled STORIES OF STRENGTH and he is one of seven authors to contribute to Tony Burton's anthology titled SEVEN BY SEVEN. To learn more about these books, go on over to his Books page and have a look around.

BJ Bourg is also the editor/owner/publisher of a quarterly mystery magazine called Mouth Full of Bullets. First published on September 07, 2006 as an online 'zine, this magazine is filled with amazingly outstanding stories and poems by some of the best new and veteran voices in the mystery community. While the print magazine features only original stories and poems, the online version features excellent reprinted works, columns, reviews, announcements, and interviews. In addition to writing and his fulltime job, BJ Bourg loves boxing, playing drums, strumming his Fender Stratocaster, teaching, sniping, martial arts, the New Orleans Saints, and (most importantly) spending time with his beautiful wife and two wonderful children.
